Electric thinking cap? flash of fresh insight by electrical brain stimulation

Are we on the verge of being able to stimulate the brain to see the world anew -- an electric thinking cap? Researchers suggests that this could be the case.

New reactor paves the way for efficiently producing fuel from sunlight

Using a common metal most famously found in self-cleaning ovens, Sossina Haile hopes to change our energy future. The metal is cerium oxide -- or ceria -- and it is the centerpiece of a promising new technology developed by Haile and her colleagues that concentrates solar energy and uses it to efficiently convert carbon dioxide and water into fuels.

A first look at flight in 2025

NASA has just tasked three companies to look into the future and design a more "green" aircraft for 2025.

Better control of building blocks for quantum computer

Scientists in the Netherlands have succeeded in controlling the building blocks of a future super-fast quantum computer. They are now able to manipulate these building blocks (qubits) with electrical rather than magnetic fields, as has been the common practice up till now. They have also been able to embed these qubits into semiconductor nanowires.

Beauty of future airplanes is more than skin deep

A NASA research effort to visualize future passenger airplanes produces ideas dominated by familiar shapes but inspired by surprises underneath.
