Short bursts of exercise have more of an impact on our bodies than you might think: a new study shows that just 12 minutes of intense activity is enough to significantly change the biomarkers of metabolic health in people's blood.

Physical activity prevents almost 4 million early deaths each year

At least 3.9 million early deaths are being averted worldwide every year by people being physically active, according to a new study using data from 168 countries. 

Sitting is linked to increased risk of depression in adolescents

Too much time sitting still  is linked to an increased risk of depressive symptoms in adolescents, finds a new study. The study found that an additional 60 minutes of light activity daily was associated with a 10% reduction in depressive symptoms.

1.4 billion adults at risk of disease from not doing enough physical activity

More than a quarter (1.4 billion) of the world's adult population were insufficiently active in 2016, putting them at greater risk of disease according to the first study to estimate global physical activity trends over time.
